Del 15 al 21 de noviembre se disputó en el Carrasco Lawn Tennis Club el primer torneo WTA en Uruguay, torneo profesional femenino organizado por la empresa Tennium.
Diane Parry, quinta cabeza de serie, se quedó con la primera edición del Montevideo Open tras vencer en la final a la tercera cabeza de serie, Panna Udvardy por 63 62 en una hora y 16 minutos de juego. Parry, nacida en Niza, Francia, con tan sólo 19 años llegó por primera vez a Uruguay a disputar este WTA 125, luego de caer en la final de Buenos Aires ante la húngara Anna Bondar 63 63.
